When you practice on our platform, your progress is saved for the next time you come back. This progress is linked to the different subjects and tests in your courses.

To help you see which subjects you have completed and how well you did, we have implemented three items that can give you this information:

In this article, we are going to explain what these items mean and how you can read them.

Below you see two screenshots of an example course page for which we will explain the different information shown to you. The first screenshot contains the default icons, in the second screenshot accessibility mode has been activated. Read more about accessibility mode in this article.

The check marks

You can potentially achieve three different check marks per subject.

The first is the (top) checkmark in front of the subject. When you have practised and completed a set of exercises, the subject will be labelled with a little check mark. See the mark in front of the lesson "Optimization using Derivatives".

Accessibility mode

This check mark means that you have completed the exercises at least once, and your progress is saved.

The two other checkmarks can be found under the title of the subject, next to 'lesson' and 'exercises'. See the following example:

The two individual checkmarks below the title will tell you what aspect(s) of the subject you have completed. If a subject does not contain a lesson or set of exercises, the respective element will be greyed out.

Note: the checkmark in front of the subject will only appear if you completed a set of exercises. If your subject does not contain any exercises (the word exercises will be greyed out), you will not receive a checkmark in front of the subject.

Be aware that the checkmarks themselves do not provide you with any information regarding how you answered the exercises. The colour of the label (default) or the secondary icon (accessibility mode) will provide you with more information about your mastery. And you can always still practice more if you desire!

The colors / icons of the labels

The colours / icons linked to the labels can be read as estimations of your understanding of the subject. These estimations of your mastery are based on your scoring of the exercise set of the subject.

Note: we measure progress based on completed exercises in subjects. Incomplete practice sessions and lessons do not account for progress.

The default mode provides you with three colors:

  • green

  • orange

  • red

The accessibility mode uses three icons:

  • an octagon with a checkmark

  • a diamond with a question mark

  • a triangle with an exclamation point

The colors are used in the following way to inform you about your mastery of the subject:

  • Red / triangle with exclamation point: not mastered; you do not yet fully understand this subject. You got a score of <50% on this exercise set. We recommend that you practice this lesson again.

  • Yellow / diamond with a question mark: maybe mastered; you have a limited understanding of this subject. You have gotten a score between 50% and 80%. It might be a good idea to repeat these exercises again.

  • Green / octagon with a checkmark: mastered; you seem to understand this subject well, and you got a score of >80%.

The progress bar

At the top of the page, you can find a progress bar.

This bar tells you how many subjects and tests are available in your course and how many of those you have practiced or completed (for tests). It is a count of the amount of check marks you have collected. โ€‹

Remember: the progress bar does not depend on the colour of the labels, it does not tell you how well you have done on the subjects. It only tells you how many subjects you have completed out of the total number of subjects.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I not see a checkmark / colour after practising?

The checkmark in front of the subject will only appear if you complete a set of exercises. If your subject does not contain any exercises (the word exercises below the title will be greyed out), you will not receive a checkmark in front of the subject.

Unsure if this is the case? Reach out to your lecturer or our support team via the chat icon in the bottom right of your screen.

How do I enable accessibility mode?

For the course page we have a dedicated accessibility mode to convey the same information using uniquely formed icons instead of only colors. Read more about how to enable this and how to interpret the icons here: Accessibility Mode for course progress in Grasple.

Why is the label of my subject coloured without a checkmark?

Completing a selftest or diagnostic assessment will provide you with feedback regarding your mastery of the different subjects. This information is shared with you in the form of the colors / icons to help you determine your learning trajectory. The checkmark will only appear if you complete the exercise set of the subject itself.
