In large courses you can split up the students into groups, allowing you to filter your learning analytics per group and thus more easily focus on a specific group of students when teaching.
In addition, you can use these course groups for test settings as well. This includes:
Setting opening/closing times per group for per test.
In this article we will explain how to use the last option of setting opening/closing times of a test for a specific course group.
Summary
In the test settings you can set the opening/closing times of the whole test. With the setting per group you can override the opening and/or closing times for that specific group. This means it will use the test's opening and/or closing if no opening and/or closing time is set for a specific group. By default all groups have no specific opening and/or closing time set.
When using the feature of setting the opening/closing times per course group, please be aware of the following:
if a course group does not have an opening and closing time set, it will use the test's opening and closing times. If the test does not have opening and closing times, the test will always be open for that group (or any other group without the opening/closing time set or students without group).
if a course group only has the opening time set, it will use that opening time combined with the test's closing time. If the test does not have a closing time set, the test will remain open indefinitely for that group after the opening time.
if a course group only has the closing time set, it will use that closing time combined with the test's opening times. If the test does not have an opening time set, the test will be open for that group as soon as you add it to the course.
when updating the opening/closing times of a course group the sessions affected by this change will receive a new end time based on the updated setting. Similar to how updating the test settings and/or extra time settings do this.
It is your responsibility as teacher to configure the opening and closing times of both the test and the course groups in such a way that combined they do ensure the right opening and closing times. Be careful when changing any of the test and/or course-group settings since these changes will also affect ongoing sessions.
When combining this feature with a Schoolyear integration, the restriction of the test's opening and closing time will still be in effect. It is your responsibility as teacher to keep the course-group opening and closing times also within a single day to ensure the Schoolyear Integration can work properly.
How to configure opening/closing times per course group
Go the the specific test and click edit.
Go to Course Settings via the more dropdown.
Select the right course you want to specify the settings for.
Specify any opening and/or closing times you want to override per course group and save this.
