Grasple has multiple check methods using the Computer Algebra System (CAS) which can be used within the editor to indicate when the answer of a student should be marked correct/incorrect. A full list of current options can be found in this article.

This article covers the 'a unit' check. There are two sections in this article:

  1. When to use the 'a unit' check?

  2. How does the 'a unit' check work?

When to use the 'a unit' check?

This check makes it possible to check if a given right-hand side expression (normally the answer given by the student) contains a quantity. This means that 1 kg, 1 g, 1 m/s and 1 kilonewton will all pass this test, while 1+1, or 1 do not.

How does the 'a unit' check work?

This check tries to extract the quantity part of a given unit expressions. If this part cannot be found the check will fail, otherwise it will succeed.
