By default, a math question has a single answer field. However, you can also add multiple answer fields to a question which the student needs to fill in before being able to check/save their answer.
In this article we will explain how you can create such a question and how to use it to provide specific feedback and/or create your answer model.
Switch from single to multiple answer fields
Let's use an example to show how you could use multiple answer fields to create a better question. Let's take the following example.
However, what if we want to extend this question into multiple unknowns like this:
This is where multiple answer fields come in. You can switch to a multiple answer fields question at the right bottom of the answer field in math questions.
As a result you get new options, such as adding multiple answer fields.
NOTE: switching back from multiple answer fields back to single answer fields will remove information. Do not save the changes you made if you want to keep the multiple answer fields setup stored.
Adding answer fields and setting the answer
When you switched to multiple answer fields, you can add and remove answer fields, add prefixes to each of the answer fields to help students understand what they should fill in where.
By adding a second answer field, filling in the right answer and filling in the prefix fields, you have created a fully functional multiple answer field questions.
For a student this will be shown in a similar fashion:
Setting the correct answer (via answer rules)
By default the correct answer will be set based on the values you enter in each of the answer fields in a similar fashion as being done for a single answer field question.
You can see this by opening the "edit answers and specific feedback" popup where you will see the following:
These answer rules are automatically constructed based upon the values in the answer fields. If you add/remove answer fields the answer rules will be updated accordingly if they are still the default answer rules.
However, you can set the answer rule any way you like using the available answer fields. Check out the article explaining how you can use more complex answer rules to provide feedback and or mark answer correct/incorrect.
Availability
The multiple answer fields are only available for math questions within exercises. They are not yet available in other types of questions and or lesson-questions in general.
