Asking good question online is an art. You have to make sure the question is clear enough to any user to understand without additional help or clarification.

Picking a suitable answer type helps.

At this moment, we provide 4 different answer field types you can use:

  • Multiple choice (select one)
  • Numeric
  • One-word open answer
  • Symbolic math

Multiple choice

This is the traditional multiple choice question. The user can select only one answer at a time. More than one answer can be correct. You can add specific feedback to each option. It's easy to create, but do take into account that you might be helping learners by providing the different options. This takes away their chance of testing their recall on the answers.

Numeric

This field takes in a number. It will mark correct all answers that are within a specified range or threshold of the answer you provide. By default, this range is set to 5% of the correct answer. You can change this using the multiple answers button to the left of the answer field.

One-word open answer

When you want to test whether a learner can recall a certain term, you can use the one-word open answer type. This takes in one or two words. It employs a machine learning algorithm to judge whether an answer is correct or not. It's not 100% accurate of course. It averages to about 80% correct. Make sure to provide a very clearly worded question, to avoid confusion on what is being asked.

Symbolic math

This field takes in math and evaluates the equivalence of two mathematical statements. For example, if the correct answer is x^2, x * x will also be marked correct.
