Grasple has multiple check methods using the Computer Algebra System (CAS) which can be used within the editor to indicate when the answer of a student should be marked correct/incorrect. A full list of current options can be found in this article.
β
This article covers the 'an Equivalent value and unit as' check. There are two sections in this article:
When to use the 'an Equivalent value and unit as' check?
How does the 'an Equivalent value and unit as' check work?
When to use the 'an Equivalent value and unit as' check?
If you want to check whether a given Unit Expression has a value and a quantity which is equivalent to a given value, this is the check to use. The input on the right-hand side of this check can be a:
unit expression (such as
4 N
).
This check will check two properties of a unit expression:
The value the unit expression,
The quantity of the unit expression
Note: this check will not check the precision of the given expression.
The check will verify whether these properties are equivalent (see below for links to more details). If the form of the unit expression is also important, use the 'an Exact value and unit as' check.
How does the 'an Equivalent value and unit as' check work?
The check will check if the given student answer describes the same unit and quantity as defined in the answer model. This means that:
the values should be algebraically equivalent
the quantities should be considered equivalent
Note: this check will not check the precision of the given expression.
