How do I open my browser console?

This article describes how you can take a screenshot of your browser console when you need help with trouble shooting.

When you need help from our support team with trouble shooting an error, it is of great help to share the information from your browser console via a screenshot. The information provided in the console helps us identifying the issue quicker and is often essential in solving the problem. This article helps you if you do not know how to do this yourself.

Use keyboard shortcuts

The section below provides the shortcuts for opening the browser console and taking screenshots on your device.

Opening the browser console

Note: it is not possible to open the browser console on iPadOS and Android devices with a shortcut. If the issue occurs on multiple devices, sharing the information from your mac or PC is easier. If the issue only occurs on your iPad or Android device, please scroll down for instructions on opening the Console on Mobile Chrome and Mobile Safari.

Opening your browser console without keyboard shortcuts

The section below provides instructions on how to open your browser consule without keyboard shortcuts. These instructions are accompanied by screenshots or YouTube videos to further clarify.

macOS / Windows / Linux devices

For Chrome

  1. Open the settings by clicking button in the top right hand corner of your browser (3 horizontal dots)

  2. Hover over 'More tools'

  3. Click 'Developer tools'

  4. Click the tab 'Console'

For Safari

  1. From the top left hand corner of your screen, select 'Safari'.

  2. In the drop down menu, select 'Preferences...'

  3. In the pop-up window, select the tab 'Advanced'.

  4. At the bottom, tick the option 'Show Develop menu in menu bar'.

  5. Now you should see the tab 'Develop' in your menu bar. Click this.

  6. In the drop-down menu, click the option 'Show JavaScript Console' to open the console.

For Edge

  1. Open settings in the top right by clicking on the three dots

  2. Select F12 Developer Tools

  3. Select the console tab

For Mozilla Firefox

  1. From the top left hand corner of your screen, select ’Safari’ (next to the Apple logo)

  2. In the drop down menu, select ’Preferences...’

  3. In the pop-up window, select the furthest right tab ’Advanced’

  4. At the bottom of the ’Advanced’ window, you should see the option ’Show Develop menu in menu bar’. Tick this.

  5. Close the pop-up window.

  6. Now, along the menu bar at the top of the screen, you should see the word ’Develop’ between ’Bookmarks’ and ’Window’. Click this.

  7. In the drop-down menu, you’ll see the option ’Show JavaScript Console’. Click this to open the console.

For Internet Explorer

  1. From the button in the top right hand corner of your browser, select 'F12 Developer Tools'

  2. Select the console tab

iPadOS / iOS / Android devices

Note: opening the console on iPadOS and Android devices is more difficult. Please see if you can replicate the issue on your laptop first. If the issue only occurs on your iPadOS / Android device, follow the instructions below.

For Mobile Chrome

On iPadOS, iOS and Android devices, Chrome is installed as Mobile Chrome. Mobile Chrome does not include developer tools and it is thus not possible to directly open the Console on the device.

The following video describes a workaround to open the Console window. For detailed instructions, please read the description of the video.

For Mobile Safari

On iPadOS and iOS devices, Safari is installed as Mobile Safari. Mobile Safari does not include developer tools directly and you will need your laptop to access the Console.
